Hang Seng Bank
Have you ever been asked to provide sensitive personal information through calls or electronic communication methods such as email and SMS?
Recently, it has come to our attention that fraudsters impersonated as law enforcement officers or bank staffs, lure victims to provide their personal information such as HKID number, e-Banking login credentials and One-time-password (OTP) to perform fraudulent transactions.
Beware of any message telling you to click on a link. It may take you to an illegitimate website or install malware on your computer or mobile device for the purposes of fraudulent or other criminal activities.
Always watch out for these scam signs:
Case 1: Violated the laws in the Mainland and need to provide bank accounts for investigation?
Fraudsters falsely claim they are law enforcement officers, call victims and claim they have violated the laws in the Mainland and request them to provide e-Banking login credentials and OTP for investigation. The victims who follow the instructions given by the fraudsters would found their savings accounts emptied soon afterwards.
Case 2: Receive SMS from banks and requested to take immediate action by clicking on a link?
SMS purportedly sent from banks by fraudsters remind victims that the settings in their e‑Banking account is abnormal or there has been a scheduled outward payment at their account, etc., luring them to click on the links to reset or cancel. The victims would be redirected to a fraudulent website and input their e-Banking login credentials as requested.
Case 3: Provide personal information in return to obtain low-interest rate loans or investment tips?
Fraudsters impersonate bank staffs, falsely claiming that they can provide you low-interest rate loans or insider tips to help you make money from stock market. They will send you fake staff ID cards, business cards or investment announcements of Bank, luring you to provide your personal information, e-Banking login credentials as well as stock trading details and etc.
To bank smart, here are some tips to ensure your online safety:

If the callers / senders claim themselves as officers of law enforcement agencies or banks and request for your personal information and e-Banking login credentials under various pretexts, even if they are able to provide your personal information, that information might be obtained from public or even illegal sources; If you have any doubt, you should contact the relevant institution by calling its customer service hotline to verify before taking any requested action.
